Winter - Permanent ResidentWinter is one of the two inspirations of Randy's Rescue. Winter is an older Amish plow horse. She has seen some hard life and some good life here at RR. She was Randy's first horse and taught him to ride. She loves to "plow" thru the trails with Randy and play in the rivers. Winter was named Winter because when you brush her... it snows white everywhere! There may have been some Game of Thrones reference as well.... :)
Winter was diagnosed with DSLD (Degenerative Suspensory Ligament Disease) last year (2019) and is on Previcox to keep her comfortable. So far its working and she's not getting worse, but as soon as its not manageable, she will be put down. We at the rescue and Randy himself are watching her carefully to make sure she is comfortable. Winter's needs include Previcox (think ibuprofen) daily to keep her comfortable as well as a lot of hay and grain. She weights 1800lbs! Winter was put down in 2023 due to the DSLD getting to the point where her tail was dragging on the ground from her hocks dropping. She would lay down and could not get up without assistance. The colder winter months were very hard on her, so it was decided to let her go to greener warmer pastures. She joins Snoopy and Misty.
